Folk Rising is the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s (EFDSS) national showcase platform for a new generation of folk music artists in England proving at a stage on which they can find their performance feet whilst exploring new ideas and styles.
Folk Rising began life at Cecil Sharp House in partnership with The Nest Collective (formerly known as The Magpie’s Nest) and it has now earned a reputation as being a hotbed of exciting talent. This has resulted in an expansion of the programme across England and more and more young artists looking to be included. Nearly 150 artists have been showcased since the programme began in 2010, and many have gone on to blossoming careers – Dan Walsh, Keston Cobblers Club, The Staves and Gilmore & Roberts, to name but a few.
Each Folk Rising programme is presented in partnership with a venue, festival or promoter. To ensure that emerging artists from across England are given an opportunity we encourage our partners to include local talented artists in their programming, and so reflect the full range of talented artists from around the country.
